Took me a while to find this thread, but thought it actually showed the VIN breakdown for the Genesis Coupe ... well it DOES NOT and I know I saw it somewhere !!

Anyone know where I may have seen actual VIN decoding for the Coupe ??

Thanks,

Doug

I'll break it down for ya'

1st 3 Letters are W.M.I. (World Manufacturer Identifier) (ie Hyundai Korea - passenger vehicle)

Next 7 Letters/Digits are VDS (Vehicle Description Section)

4th digit = model line & drive type (ie Genesis Coupe 2010-)
5th digit = trim level (ie GT Genesis coupe)
6th digit = body type (ie coupe)
7th digit = restraint system (ie advanced airbags)
8th digit = engine type (ie 3778CC DOHC RS)
9th digit = check digit (0-9 of X)
10th digit = model year (ie 2010)
11th digit = manufacturing plant code (Ulsan Plant, Korea)

Last 7 Letters/Digits (Last 6 Being only #s) are Vehicle Serial Number

THANKS GUYS ... printed it off this time !!

What made me search for this is I was thinking (hoping) that the transmission type was specified ... these cars are so new in the system that many dealers did not specify what trans car had. Can figure it out based on the sticker price though.

FYI ... Only code that does not jive with the VIN's I wrote down from various cars (supossedly at dealerships in Illinois & Wisconsin) is digit "7. Restaint system". All the VIN's I've got written down here have a "K" here instead of 0 - 6 as shown above.

FYI 2 ... of the TWELVE cars I've found at 11 different dealers ... ALL OF THEM ARE AUTOMATIC !!

Ok... Here you go guys... more Hyundai VIN info than you ever cared to know. These are off Hyundai's Documents/Resources site, and are the exact ones I have printed to reference every day. Just about have them memorized.

These are only for Hyundai though, so be aware of that.
