Default 2009 Genesis 4.6 Died

I am looking for a couple of answers to some questions that i am not getting from the dealer. My issue started 4 weeks ago with a simple oil change. I picked the car up and drove for a few days to and from work and never noticed the oil leak, more specifically never thought it was coming from my car. I thought it was from my sons '01 Cruiser. On a Wednesday evening i was pulling into the neighborhood and the oil light came on in the dashboard. I was less than a minute from home so i continued. I woke up the next morning and started the car, no lights on the dash. I drove about a mile and the oil light, then check enginer light came on, and within seconds very loud knocking noises from the engine and then the car shutdown. I had the car towed to the dealer that performed the scheduled oil change. The tow truck driver noticed a large puddle of fresh oil under the car. I was now able to put it all together, that it was me leaking in oil all along. The dealer subseuently told me that there was an oil leak at the filter becasuse of a pinched o-ring. they say they put a quart of oil back into the car, but the tow driver says impossible, so did my neighbor.

Ultimately, they told me the CVT valve was bad, and another part (which i forgot at this time) but both were related to oil. They had to take the CAM off to fix, but told me today that the car started and shutoff immediately, not sure when i will get back.

The dealer is new and have only 2 mechanics. I called consumer affairs and advised of the problem and the misstated issues. They advised there is nothing they can do to assist. I advised that my concern is that the engine will never be the same again, and i quite honestly do not want this car back. I am wondering if someone can advise if this will be causing permanent damage. The other concern i have is that if there are two mechanics and at least one of them cannot change oil with screwing it up, i am a little nervous.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The pinched o-ring issue happened to someone here with a coupe and (if I remember right) their motor was replaced.

My dealer told me when I got my coupe that the 4.6L sedans habitually leaked oil more than any other Hyundai. They were telling me that as if it were somehow going to lessen my anger at an issue I was having at the time. Then the guy (the service manager before he got fired) proceeded to brag about his Porsche . . . I was like ... dude you work at Hyundai why are you bragging about another car? Anywho...

If I were you, I would check to make sure their mechanic is certified to fix that car since they only have 2 mechanics and it will likely be costing the dealer money directly since it was their man who fucked up the motor. I doubt Hyundai will be reimbursing them for it so they will probably try to give you the short end of the straw - meaning rebuild your motor instead of replacing it. If you had oil starvation and that caused problems I would never trust that motor again. If you have to accept a rebuilt motor I would get rid of the car the week you get it back before another problem comes up. It may actually have voided your warranty?? Dunno much about something like that though - Tufast will likely know much more than I in any event.

Running an engine without oil so much so that it shut the car off. There are so many things that it could have damaged and now need to be inspected before I would take that car back.

Cylinder walls could be damaged
Pistons
Piston Rings
Crankshaft Bearings
Cam Shafts
Oil Pump

While the engine may run again I don't believe that there is no other damage to the car other than a CVT, quart of oil, and a filter. I would get them to tear the head off that shit and do a full inspection, or take it to another more experienced mechanic and then sue them for the bill. Though if you think about it, they screwed up and oil change. Do you want them working inside your engine doing more complicated things?

In any event if your not receiving the care you deserve or it's not to your satisfaction do not sign and take that car back and call Hyundai corporate immediately they well help take car of any problems regarding the Genesis.

Canes, welcome to the site. Sorry to hear about your misadventure. Can you tell us the dealer's name? We try to advise each other on where to & not to go. I hope they take care of it properly.

Cherokee Hyundai in Kennesaw, Georgia. I am very disappointed with them and Hyundai. Honestly this was the first car that i really enjoyed driving it is or maybe was a great car until they f'ed it up. The kicker is they told me the only leak had nothing to do with the other problems, but i truly believe it was all directly related. But i am not a mechanic....Thanks.
