I have called Consumer Affairs and opened a case with them. They keep telling they have the best "CERTIFIED" mechanics on staff at the dealer. It appears they are not listening to the problem, just reading from a script.

I just got off of the phone with them and this is what they said now.

The engine bank on the drivers side had to have 2 CVT valves replaced, the chain tensioner replaced and the oil control valve. The status after all this is that camshaft and crankshaft are not in sync, out of time.

The oil leak they say did not contribute to this problem, it is just a coincedence...i call bs..they say the car only leaked 1/2 to 1 quart of oil. Unfortunately i did not check, but i do not think that is the case...i think it leaked and so does my neighbor who is weekend mechanic.

You will soon learn that Hyundai Consumer Affairs sucks...to say the least. I think their training consist of denying anything could possibly be their fault. They could be standing in front of a burning house with a lighter and gas can and singed hair, and deny they had anything to do with it...it speaks volumes about the company and ultimately, the quality of their product.

My 2010 Coupe had a multitude of issues they would never admit too...until I posted a video on youtube proving there was an issue. A few weeks later, I had an offer to buy the car back which I was more than happy to take. They wanted to video taken down. They have the car back now and I am just waiting on the rest of my money. Until that check clears, the video remains up.

By the way, just when I was leaving for my deployment, I pulled the car out to get something down from storage, and low and behold, a little puddle of oil under my brand new Coupe with less than 2500 miles on it. I am back to shopping for another car, and it just got easier removing one manufacture from my list.

Keep after them, they need to be held accountable for what they sell/service to the consumer.

Update......I sent an email to the President\CEO on saturday and received a response on Sunday stating the problem will be solved to my liking. Yesterday i received a call from the VP of Customer Satisfaction. They are going to replace the engine and reimburse me some monies for my troubles. More importantly they are towing to another dealer for the replacement of the engine...

GREAT news...glad to hear!

Pavehawk Gunner-

On the other hand, I'll never understand how one person having trouble with their car claims it's representative of the entire company, or every other one built. First off, it's clear your hood is whacked...and I know there is a TSB for the early builds having hood lining up issues, but yours seems to be an issue with it being secured when closed.

I can understand it must be frustrating, but you could argue there are a LOT more of us out there with no issues, so simply writing off Hyundai as a brand seems a bit over the top. Was yours one of the earlier builds? What other problems have you had? Have you had the latest ECU updates and such? As for your oil leak, what did it turn out to be? An oil leak could be something as simple as a leaky drain plug washer or a pinched o-ring in the filter housing (3.8).

Glad to Hyundai stepped in & took charge from that dealer. Keep us posted on final results.

wow thats really messed up. it seems theres been couple cases with dealer messing up the oil change. now i am afraid to get mine done at the dealer. i guess i'll go to the one where i usually got my old car's oil changed. hope they know somewhat about the car not to screw it up. This brings up a question. if i go to lets say jiffy lube to get oil change and they mess it up, it the jiffy lube that has to get it fixed right? since it would be their fault... i know im being obvious but this is my first new car and wanted to take care of it the best way i can.

Yes, if QuickLube fucks your car up from an improper oil change, they are responsible for fixing it, but it's between you & them at that point. If you want to retain factory warranty on your car, QuickLube would have to have repairs done at Hyundai dealer svc dept using new parts.

I do all my own work because of 2 reasons: 1) I don't trust anyone to do as good a job on my vehicle as I can, simply because I take my time & double check everything (I'm not on the clock). 2) If I'm spending the money on the parts, I want the satisfaction of installing them.

Keep in mind that I consider my techs of above avg regarding their quality & knowledge, yet still want to do my own work. But, I'm capable of doing said work, therefore its better to let someone else screw your car up making them responsible, rather than you fucking it up yourself & being SOL if you don't know what you are doing.
