I think custom a exhaust with MagnoFlow mufflers sounds pretty good on these cars, will flow pretty well & not cost too much.

But I'm taking this car all the way picking out parts based on their quality & my needs more over price.

One of the shops I went to said they refuse to sell magnaflow brand because they always rust out and have to be replaced almost every year.. First time I've ever heard that, any truth to it?

FYI you guys stating the stock exhaust net's you nothing in replacement are correct...

On the dyno... we saw 0 hp gains at full power output when we REMOVED the entire exhaust and ran the open downpipe...

Replacing the cat and the o2 housing is the most important mod for exhaust on the stock turbo... anything else you should be buying injectors, intercoolers and a silencer delete with the money you saved

Yeah, but Hardmack is right, no gains....although it is probably worth the sound alone IMO. I could barely hear my car on the track last weekend with helmet on & all the louder cars around me. I had to pay attention to the tach some just to know when to change gears.

Mack, only problem with messing with cats & O2 sensors is those that get inspected might run into some trouble. I on the other hand will have no cats when all is said & done. evilgrin: The dirty south allows rednecks to drive P/Us w/no exhaust, so the rest of us power junkies can set out cars up the way we want until the law changes & I pray it don't.

Sathien, I've never heard of Magnaflow rusting out any faster than other exhausts, but if you opt for stainless steel, I would imagine you would have no concerns. Then again, I don't live where there is alot of salt either like up north with the snow or near the beach, so that would make my opinion bias. If anyone else on here has heard of this, speak up.

Ah you lucky people way south... Several of the counties in metro Atlanta have mandatory emission inspections including mandatory visual inspection of the catalytic converter. However, since I was an emissions inspector for a little while, I have to say I've never actually heard of anyone failing the inspection as long as the car thinks the emissions control system is working 100% (this only works for MY 1996+, otherwise we have to do tailpipe measurements). Inspectors tend to be lazy...

Edit: It also can't be painfully obvious you don't have a cat. If you roll up to the shop and the exhaust rumble is enough to deafen everyone there... you might get failed. Or congratulated. Depends on where you go.

Magnaflow is technically stainless steel, but its a 409 grade which can and does rust. Any company that typically claims stainless but does not list the grade you can almost bet is 409 stainless. When it is a better grade (ie 304) its almost always advertised.

I am working on a custom setup now. Going with a high-flow o2 housing 3" DP seccondary cat delete and then straight 3" pipe out the back to some dual tips. No extra fluff or weight of miufflers. Once I get it finished Ill get some sounds clips up.
