This is just my experience, but I can't see ever buying a car from a dealership that does this.
So, I have gone into Larry Miller Hyundai a few times to get a brochure, ask when the coupes are coming in, etc. First problem was that I left my name and number with one of the salesmen and he said he'd call me as soon as they came off the truck. He never called me. Strike one, go to another salesman. I drove there as soon as I found out they had some in. Just so happens, they have exactly what I'm looking for, Nordschleiffe Gray 3.8 Track. I talked to a different guy and asked to schedule a test drive, to which he replied that I'd have to get a credit check first. Strike two, but I'll deal with it. Today was the day. I drove over there as excited as a kid on Christmas.
I talked to Mateo, the second salesman, and agreed to do the check so I could test drive it. He sat there and bullshit with my gf while I plugged away on that application for 10 minutes. He proceeded to take it in, and stayed in the office for a few minutes while I patiently waited for him to come back out. He walked out with the keys *awesome*, and sat down with a frown on his face *not so awesome*. He told me that they don't want to let a bunch of people test drive the car unless they are serious about buying it. He then said, "You are in a great position to buy right now with your credit and trade-in, you could drive away with it today". I said, ok. If you can match the Invoice +$500 +TTL, I'll sign right now, that $6000 mark-up you have must've come from someone smoking crack, cuz there is no way. No haggling, no nothing, he just said "that's not even close to where we are". I asked him if the Test-drive was off. Yep.
He actually had the balls to ask me to keep in touch. HA, I said "You expect me to jump through these hoops, deal with being ignored, fill out the application, and then be kicked out the door, basically. And then expect me to keep dealing with you? I have no intention of ever driving into this parking lot again".
So that's my story. This is inexcusable, if you ask me. It was obviously coming from someone higher than him, probably the sales manager. If this is how they treat customers, I want no part in their business, and I don't think anyone else wants to be taken for a ride by them either. They did the same thing to my gf when she bought her Sonata, bullied her into buying when she came in for a test drive and didn't even tell her what the financing terms were. Obviously she should've been more aware and asked to see what she'd be paying, but that doesn't take away from the fact that they are just plain shady.
Please, for the love of Hyundai's customer service, nobody let them deal this way with you, either.
