I visited Hyundai of LIC and nanuet, and was severely disappointed. I was about to give up.
I went to Hyundai of LIC and looked at Gray 2.0T 6MT base ($22,000 base + destination).
The salesperson walked off to the manager and came back with $28,500!!!!!!!!!!!
First time in my life where the salesperson walks off and returns with a "negotiated price" that is HIGHER than the MSRP! The manager (who was orange from spray on tan, and had plucked his eyebrows so much that he looked like a mannequin) tried to tell me that the 2.0T 6MT is so hot that they can't find them.
Hyundai of Nanuet was also a disappointment. The initial quote was $26,000 and I asked if it was for base, and they said it was for 2.0T 6MT base. Again, I told him that MSRP is 22,000. we left and he kept calling back, and kept insisting that he can beat ANY price (including the insanely unrealistic quote I got from a random dealer on the internet).
I was about to gtive up and go for a 2010 Lancer, then Walter from Curry Hyundai called us.
When told of the insane price, he said that it must be a typo and that no dealer could possibly match that, BUT he was willing to talk.
I gave him the number off edmunds.com that people were paying for a 2.0T 6MT base package, and he said that he could match it, but it is negotiable. I also gave him an Edmunds pricing of 2.0T 6MT with Premium package. he said that he could match that too. I then told him that he is 40 min away and we don't want to come up unless he is serious. he then assured me that he would AT LEAST match the prices, but we would talk and negotiate. I drove up right away
When I arrived he had two cars in the lot already waiting (2.0T 6MT's one base and one with premium). Not only did he meet the phone price, he even did alittle better!! The manager was curteous and the experience reminded me of last time when I bought my nissan from an upscale nissan dealer or even the infiniti dealer in north NJ.
I highly recommend Walter. As soon as we met and shook hands, he started by saying, "the prices are negotiable, heck, everything is negotiable, this is a business!"
If or when you do talk to him, tell him that Sage and Gina referred you to him.
