Ottawa 2-for-1 meet/cruise - Sept. 19th, 2010.
Okay, here it is.
Gen Coupe Two-for-One meet & cruise:
VENUES: Bate Island(exit off Island Park Dr./Champlain Bridge) and Gatineau Park(Champlain Lookout)
STARTING LOCATION: Tim Horton's nearby the corner of Prince of Wales Dr. and Meadowlands Dr.(directly across from the Prince of Wales apartment towers).
DATE: Sunday, September 19th, 2010
MEETING TIME: 4:30 pm
Bate Island route:
1- Start at Tim Horton's near corner of Prince of Wales Dr.(PoW) and Meadowlands Dr.
2- Drive south on PoW, turn left onto Hog's Back Rd.
3- Cross Hog's Back bridge, turn left onto Colonel By Dr(CBD).
4- Drive north along CBD. Continue until Hawthorne Ave.(after Heron, Carleton U., Bronson, Bank and Lansdowne Park).
5- Turn left at Hawthorne Ave. Cross bridge. Turn left onto Queen Elizabeth Driveway(QED).
6- Drive north along QED. Continue until PoW/Scenic Dr. traffic circle.
7- Take Scenic Dr. until Carling Ave. where it becomes Island Park Dr.
8- Take Island Park Dr. until Bate Island exit(halfway point on Champlain Bridge). *** IMPORTANT *** The on- and off-ramps for Bate Island are VERY dangerous. Both ramps are short and ongoing traffic tends to be quite fast. Keep your eyes peeled!
Going to Bate Island using this route takes approximately 30 minutes. We can take some photos on the island and then make our way to Champlain Lookout.
Gatineau Park route:
1- Leave Bate Island and head to Gatineau Park. *** IMPORTANT *** The on- and off-ramps for Bate Island are VERY dangerous. Both ramps are short and ongoing traffic tends to be quite fast. Keep your eyes peeled!
2- There's an Information Center/Parking Area just inside the Gatineau Park entrance on the right-hand side(the Info. shack after a three-way intersection). We can use this parking area to make sure we have everyone together depending on how easily we escape Bate Island.
3- Drive up to Champlain Lookout. This time, we should take the route to the right(passing the Camp Fortune exit).
ManOnFire is right about the available daylight. I don't want to leave Gio or anyone else out of this meet. Since Gatineau Park has no artificial lighting, other than motorist's headlights, we don't want to be zipping through there when it's too dark. Safety is paramount.
If the weather isn't cooperating, we can make a decision on Bate Island.
I hope 4:30 pm on Sunday is doable. Let us know if you'd like to start a little bit later.
